Not long after following Cubehead on Twitter ( X), that's when I entered his discord. See the thing was this. CUBEHEADS were becoming so popular that once they were bought people were reselling them for double the price. This meant that those who knew when they were dropping were able to capitalise. Perks of joining the party. Thinking now, the sad reality was that people were making profit on the artists work. What did Cube get in return? Well just the mint price and any royalties from the sales. The real moneymakers were those who could buy before everyone else.
My journey into Nfts really began here. I had already familiarised myself with how to buy these digital tokens (created a cryptocurrency wallet, filled it with some Tezos, found a marketplace where I could buy). I spent a few nights sitting down with my wife as we browsed the newly minted art on Hic et Nunc<\/u><\/a>. The early pieces I picked up were a mixture of collage pieces, pixel characters and some 3d art that would turn out to be copymints. Nothing was really enticing me to keep coming back other than the lure of being able to sell these tokens for a profit in the future. How would I know if they were going to sell though? I didn't.\u00a0 At this point I was just buying what I liked and rolled with it. Then I came across this cubed shaped character and thought that looked unique, hadn't seen anything like that before. Did my research and, confident he was the actual artist, I bought my first cube head. After a couple more Cubeheads he released the one I use still to this day.<\/u><\/a><\/p>
Greeted by warm welcomes by the man himself and then by the rest of the room. There were emojis here, stickers, gifs there. All with the intention to make me feel welcome. I did keep coming back. I came back for the gif and the meme wars. I came back for the live group drawing sessions and talks we'd have in the DJ booth while listening to my playlist. I came back for the locker room banter. Soon I'd be the one doing the greeting. It was contagious. Like more and more people coming to a party you were already at. I still speak and collaborate with some of these people to this day. We'd all talk about the latest Cube drop and who would be sniping them first. The fomo was real. We were trying to grab Cubehead drops as soon as they came out, even while we were driving. Wreckless. <\/p>
It never felt like Cube was in this for the money. I mean we all got to eat and I'm sure the Tezos were welcomed in the house of Cube, but he never gave that impression. Especially by the way he used to buy other artists work. He was a great supporter of the community.
With his bold bright colours, simple original designs, Cubeheads personality really shines through his work. A friendly, shy, humble guy from Indonesia. It became really obvious early on that this was an artist who was looking for his place in the digital art space.
It's really satisfying when someone recognizes you because of who you\u2019re wearing. Feels like you're representing the artist.
Since then he has been commissioned to do multiple projects, as well as completing his own Ak1ra V1 <\/u><\/a>and V2<\/u><\/a> projects. My favourite collection of his works has to be the Cubehead Collaborations<\/u><\/a> where he would do his own spin on current projects, creating hype for both, introducing two communities to each other, allowing for networking and growth\u00a0 #meaningofboom.
This piece is taken from that collection and is aptly called Chillin. That's what we did back then. Just came to a party and chilled.
These days Cube spends his time looking after his own special 1\/1 in his little bit of paradise, doing commissioned work. Catch him around the way.
